Russell Westbrook on this season: “It started off difficult”
Last summer there were rumors that the Lakers are looking to trade Russell Westbrook, but no deal was made and the point guard started the season with the Purple and Gold.
Just a few games into the season the former league MVP was demoted to a bench role as Los Angeles struggled as a team.
The Lakers finally traded Westbrook to the Jazz in February. He agreed to a buyout with Utah and signed a deal with the Clippers.
His new team made it to the playoffs, but was eliminated in the first round by the Suns. After Game 5 Russ looked back at the season.
“It started off difficult, honestly,” Westbrook said. “I’m so grateful and blessed to end up in a situation where I’m just allowed to be myself and be able to be brought in with open arms, allowed me to go out and play and compete.
“I’m super grateful just for that. I’m happy and blessed to be able to finish another season. Not the result that myself or nobody wanted, but just for me personally it’s been a roller coaster mentally, emotionally for me and not just me but my family, for my close ones, even for my kids.
“It’s a lot of emotions for me honestly. So I’m just grateful to be able to sitting here and being able to finish the season. I thank God just for allowing me to do so.”
