NCAA volleyball: Hawai’i, Ball State open play; AVCA Poll; SJSU hires

Hawai’i, which received the 2021 and 2022 NCAA men’s titles, at last opens its time Thursday.

We have bought the newest AVCA Poll and a women’s hiring.

THURSDAY: It’s the period opener for both Hawai’i and Ball Point out, which returns the vacation favor this year. In 2022, Hawai’i of the Massive West performed two matches at Ball Point out of the MIVA and, dealing with a depleted roster, lost them both equally. We profiled Hawai’i and its two Greek standouts earlier this week.

There are 4 other Division I-II matches Thursday.

Loyola Chicago of the MIVA performs host to King of Conference Carolinas, CSUN of the Significant West performs host to Edward Waters of the SIAC, Mount Olive of Meeting Carolinas performs unbiased Tusculum, and LIU performs Limestone in a struggle of independents. LIU won in 4 on Wednesday at Queens.

AVCA POLL: As mentioned, Hawai’i opens its year Thursday, but even with no actively playing the Rainbow Wahine remained No. 1 in the AVCA Men’s Division I-II Coaches Poll.

The top six stayed the identical. Princeton dropped out of the best 15 and BYU moved in at No. 13.

SJSU TABS KRESS: Todd Kress, who has had huge accomplishment at Fairfield in Connecticut, is changing coasts. Kress was introduced Wednesday as the new coach at San Jose Condition. That opening was created when Trent Kersten went to Loyola Marymount.

Kress was the profitable MAAC coach ever and received the convention title 10 moments through two stints at Fairfield. He coached there from 1995-98, was the head coach at Northern Illinois, Florida State and Buffalo, ahead of returning to Fairfield 10 several years back.

Fairfield went 25-7 in 2022, 17-1 in the MAAC. The Stags have been upset by Quinnipiac in the conference match final.

San Jose State went 21-9, 14-4 in the Mountain West. The Spartans lost to Utah Condition in the MWC match championship match.

Thera are even now a handful of Division I work opportunities open, like North Carolina (we interviewed Joe Sagula after declared his retirement this earlier Monday) and Michigan.
